The history of the famous Citizen watches

Citizen is a brand that embodies innovation, precision and durability in the world of watchmaking. Since its founding, Citizen has continually pushed back technological limits and has become a global benchmark for quality watches. In this article we will explore the remarkable history of Citizen, from modest beginnings to its standing as a watchmaking giant.

The origins of Citizen

Kamekichi Yamazaki, founder of Citizen

The Citizen story begins in 1918, when the Shokosha Watch Research Institute was founded in Tokyo, Japan. In 1924 the company produced its first pocket watch, called "Citizen", named by the then mayor of Tokyo, Shigenobu Kimura, in the hope that watches would become accessible to every citizen. The name captures the brand's vision: to create high-quality watches within everyone's reach.
